The Trocano Araretama Conservation Project area is made up of three distinct project areas, totalling 1,346,541ha. It is located in the Municipality of Santo Antônio de Borba, which is positioned on the banks of the most important tributary in the southern Amazon Basin, the Madeira River. The project area is 208 km south east of the state capital Manaus. The main objective of the Trocano Araretama Conservation Project is to avoid deforestation and degradation of natural forests in the project area and region.

Cusuco National Park and the Meredón Reserve consist of lowland tropical rainforest or montane tropical cloud forest. The total project area is 55,588 hectares and is part of the Mesoamerican Biodiversity Hotspot and the Cusuco National Park is recognised by the IUCN as a Key Biodiversity Area. The project is home to a number of endemic species including the endangered Tapirus bairdii. The project is being managed by Queen's University Belfast, the Opwall Trust, and Operation Wallacea Ltd and governed in cooperation with Honduran Governmental Departments and local NGOs. The primary aim of the project is to reduce GHG emissions by avoiding deforestation and degradation and to safeguard the vulnerable biodiversity of the area.
