Project Developer Fees

The Natural Forest Standard (“NFS”) is an independent voluntary carbon crediting standard governed and administered by Ecosystem Certification Organisation (“ECO”).  ECO is a not-for-profit company. The fees payable by Project Developers are intended to reflect the administrative, technical, governance and operational costs involved in facilitating the NFS project process.

The summary below provides an overview of the core NFS project fees. Full details, including additional fees, bespoke fees, validation and verification costs, registry-related charges, and payment terms, are set out in the full Project Developer Fee Schedule.

Additional Fees and Third-Party Costs

Additional fees may apply for certain actions outside the ordinary project pathway, including material project changes, crediting period renewal, re-registration, project migration or transition, additional Technical Advisory Panel or Risk Panel review, or other non-standard administrative or technical review actions. Such fees shall be established with the project developer on an ad hoc basis.

Validation and verification costs are not included in the NFS fees. Project Developers are responsible for selecting, appointing and paying the independent third-party Validation/Verification Body.  The validation and verification costs of an individual project vary considerably, as these fees are entirely subject to the discretion of the independent third-party certification organisation that the project developer engages with. These costs will be dependent on the size, complexity and location of the project.  Each project must be fully re-verified at intervals no greater than 5 years.

Registry-related fees and sale-based charges may apply separately in accordance with the applicable NFS Registry Fee Schedule and/or Registry Provider terms.

Payment of any NFS fee does not guarantee project progression, registration, verification, issuance or any particular outcome. ECO maintains independent governance and decision-making in relation to all NFS project review, registration, verification and issuance decisions.
